Women are victims of double oppression: Intellectual session held in Pakistani Kashmir on International Women’s Day

A intellectual session was organized by the Jammu Kashmir People’s National Party in the Bagh area of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of International Working Women’s Day, titled “Neither inferior nor dominant, women’s rights should be equal”.

The session was held at the Bagh district office, which was attended by active party workers and various socio-political figures.

Poonch branch president Shan Javed, senior leader of Awami Action Committee Bagh Usman Kashar, Adil Irshad, Mumtaz Dogra and women’s committee member Salma Hameed specially participated in the session and expressed their views on women’s rights and social issues.

In their address, the speakers strongly condemned the alleged state oppression against Baloch women, their imprisonment and the fake cases being filed against them, calling it state terrorism.

The speakers said that the enforced disappearance of Baloch women who were peacefully engaged in political struggle is a clear violation of basic human rights and international laws.

The meeting declared full support for the ongoing protest of lady health workers in Pakistani-administered Jammu and Kashmir, demanded immediate recognition of their demands and said that immediate solutions should be found to the problems faced by women associated with the health sector.

In the intellectual session, the social status of women was discussed in the context of historical periods, while the history, importance and usefulness of International Working Women’s Day were also discussed in detail.

The speakers emphasized that women face double oppression in society, on the one hand, exploitation on gender grounds, while on the other hand, they face economic and social slavery due to the class system.

The speakers said that the establishment of a classless society is indispensable to eliminate all kinds of oppression and exploitation and real salvation is possible only when the exploitative structure of the capitalist system is abolished and an egalitarian society is established.
