Gilgit-Baltistan United Movement Chief Organizer Shabbir Mayar has strongly condemned the registration of an FIR against the leaders of the Awami Action Committee Gilgit-Baltistan for holding a peaceful Iftar party, terming it as state oppression.
He said that the registration of fake FIRs and arrests of Ehsan Ali Advocate, Zarif Abbas Advocate and Engineer Mehboob Ali, Fida Ali Esar, Nafees Advocate and other leaders under Sections 6/7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and Sections 153-A and 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code is a violation of human rights.
The statement emphasized that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have always raised their voices for their rights through constitutional and democratic means and peaceful assemblies are a fundamental right under the Constitution of Pakistan.
He concluded by saying that the Gilgit-Baltistan United Movement demands the immediate release of the arrested leaders, the withdrawal of baseless cases, and the cessation of future attempts to obstruct peaceful political or social activities.
