Pakistan is among the most polluted countries in the world, revealed in a global report

The latest report of IQAir, an international organization that monitors air pollution, has revealed that during the year 2025, Pakistan has ranked first among the most polluted countries in the world.

According to the report, the level of fine particulate matter in the air, known as PM2.5, was recorded 13 times higher than the recommended limit of the World Health Organization, which is considered a serious threat to human health.

The study covered 143 countries and territories, of which 130 failed to meet WHO air quality guidelines.

According to the report, Bangladesh and Tajikistan were ranked second and third respectively, while last year’s leader, Chad, fell to fourth place.

Additionally, the majority of the world’s 25 most polluted cities are from India, Pakistan and China. According to the report, the city of Loni in India has been declared as the most polluted city in the world in 2025.

According to experts, the main causes of the increase in air pollution include industrial smoke, vehicle emissions, burning of crop residues and poor environmental policies, while its effects include an increase in respiratory diseases, heart diseases and premature deaths. It should be remembered that the city of Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-administered Kashmir has been among the cities most affected by environmental pollution last year.

Experts have urged governments to take immediate and effective measures, otherwise the crisis could worsen in the coming years.
