Shaukat Nawaz Mir, leader of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee (JAAC) in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, has submitted a written petition to the Civil Secretariat of Muzaffarabad Police Station, in which he has demanded legal action against a web channel, its anchor and the guest of the program.
According to the petitioner, in a program aired on a web channel called “Kashmir Digital” on March 28, 2026, anchor Mujtaba Butt and guest Abdul Hameed Lone made “baseless and defamatory” allegations against him. The petition has taken the stand that the allegations made in the program are not only contrary to facts but also have seriously damaged his reputation.
The petition also states that the owner of the channel, Abrar Haider, allowed the program to be aired without any investigation or verification, which is a violation of journalistic principles.
Shaukat Nawaz Mir, in his petition, has requested to register a case under sections 499 and 501 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which are laws related to defamation.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, Abdul Hameed Lone had allegedly made a claim about Indian funding of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee in a program, after which a debate had erupted in political and public circles.
