The (expanded) session of the Central Committee of Iran’s Tudeh Party has appealed to all national and freedom-loving forces in the country for the establishment of a peace committee, immediate ceasefire and sustainable peace.
The statement said that this war, instigated by American imperialism and the criminal regime of Israel, is a horrific tragedy that has seriously endangered the existence of our homeland and its geographical integrity. The martyrdom and injury of thousands of people, the destruction of the country’s productive infrastructure, and the setback caused by this devastating war to the popular movement—which had become a serious challenge to the existence of the Velayat-e-Faqih government—are among the great sufferings that this war has inflicted on our nation and our country.
The spokesperson said that on this basis, the (expanded) meeting of the Central Committee of Iran’s Tudeh Party has concluded that in the current critical situation, one of the most important duties facing all progressive and freedom-loving forces in the country is to strive for the establishment of a broad peace movement inside and outside the country, so that the war imposed on our homeland can be stopped immediately. For the reactionary rulers, war is a “blessing,” which allows them to cover up the crisis of legitimacy that arose after the bloody repression and massacre of the people, who are frustrated by economic hardship, inequality, and deep class contradictions. In war situations, the reactionary rulers try to suppress every dissenting voice while continuing their anti-people policies and maintaining their grip on power. In recent days, we have witnessed this process through the arrests of hundreds of social activists and opponents after threats by the head of the judiciary, Ejai, the commander of the national police, Radan, and other leaders of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
They said that the commanders of the Revolutionary Guards, who seem to be the main center of political decisions in the country at the moment, are pursuing a destructive policy of “war until victory,” as they did during the Iran-Iraq war, especially after the liberation of Khorramshahr, which had disastrous consequences for our country and which ultimately ended with Khomeini accepting the “poison cup.” In contrast to this destructive approach, responding positively to the diplomatic efforts reported by some Persian Gulf countries could be an initial step towards ending this destructive war.
The statement said that the experience of the past three weeks has shown that the Islamic Republic is neither capable of defending the country and its infrastructure nor of protecting the lives of our compatriots who are forced to endure the inhumane American and Israeli bombings day and night in extremely difficult conditions. During all these years, adequate shelters have not even been built to protect the people from such military attacks.
He said that in the past decades, we have witnessed the rise of powerful peace movements within the country, led by progressive and liberation forces, especially courageous and struggling women. In the current difficult circumstances, supporting and rebuilding this movement is an urgent duty. Members of Iran’s Tudeh Party are ready to use all their capabilities in conjunction with other peace-loving forces in the country. Even beyond Iran’s borders, as we have reported in recent days, powerful peace movements, labor and communist movements, and trade unions around the world stand in solidarity with the Iranian people and are ready to play an active role in opposing US imperialism and the criminal regime of Netanyahu.
He said that we believe that the immediate formation of an international committee to end this devastating war and establish and preserve peace—including representatives of Iran’s national and liberation forces, as well as prominent figures from the international peace movement and the international labor and communist movements—could serve as a means of mobilizing world public opinion and increasing pressure on the war-loving forces. The first step toward achieving this goal could be to hold a joint meeting of all the progressive, peace-loving, and liberation-seeking forces in the country to plan the progress of this very important initiative.
