During the Capital Development Authority’s attempt to conduct an operation against alleged encroachments in the Bari Imam area of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, tension arose and the local population and administration came face to face.
According to eyewitnesses, when CDA officials started the operation with heavy machinery, the residents of the area protested strongly and resisted.
The protesters were of the view that the operation was unacceptable without alternative arrangements and prior notice.
In view of the situation, a large contingent of police reached the spot and efforts were made to control the situation.
According to sources, there were bitter exchanges at some places, but no major clashes were reported.
The administration says that the operation is being carried out to maintain court orders and the beauty of the city, while the locals have demanded that they not be evicted without providing relief and an alternative place.
