The Iranian Navy has closed the Strait of Hormuz, calling the US blockade a violation of the ceasefire.
It should be recalled that earlier this month, a two-week conditional ceasefire was agreed between Iran and the United States, during which maritime traffic was allowed through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, today Iran has closed the vital waterway again, and the Iranian Navy says it will remain closed until the US lifts the blockade on Iranian ships and ports.
In its latest statement, the Revolutionary Guards Navy said that Trump’s statements regarding the Strait of Hormuz “have no validity.”
It is not clear which specific comment by the US president this statement was made in reference to.
Earlier, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that Iran’s leaders want to close the strait, but the US will not allow them to be ‘blackmailed’.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the Strait of Hormuz had been closed since this evening and would remain closed until the US lifted its blockade of Iranian ports.
In a statement, the IRGC Navy warned that ‘no ship should move from its current position in the Persian Gulf or the Sea of Oman.’
Accordingly, some ships had passed through the strait under its supervision since last night, but now the waterway will be closed again until the US lifts its blockade of Iranian ports.
The statement added that ‘approaching the Strait of Hormuz will be considered cooperation with the enemy, and any vessel violating it will be targeted.’
