Decision to keep Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali in jail for another 100 days

The continued detention of human rights lawyers Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatta after their conviction in a case for expressing their opinions on social media has raised concerns in legal circles.

The two lawyers were sentenced to 10 years in prison solely on the basis of social media posts, after which the decision to keep them in jail for another 100 days has now come to light. This move has been termed unfair by lawyers’ organizations and human rights activists.

In this regard, the global human rights organization Amnesty International has released a poster on the social media platform X, in which it has been appealed to the people to support the demand for the release of Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatta.

The statement said that human rights lawyers Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha, who were serving 10 years in prison for merely posting on social media, have now been unjustly imprisoned for 100 days.

They said that their appeals have not been heard in the Supreme Court and the Islamabad High Court and they are facing extraordinary delays.

According to reports, the appeals filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Islamabad High Court have not been heard yet, which has caused extraordinary delays in the legal process.

Legal experts say that timely hearing in such cases is part of the fundamental rights.

The case is giving rise to a new debate on freedom of expression and the speed of the judicial system in the country. Human rights organizations say that harsh punishments for expressing opinions on social media can prove detrimental to democratic values.

Some sections of the legal community have demanded that the case be heard urgently and the requirements of justice be met, so that the perception of delay in the delivery of justice can be eliminated.

Further progress will depend on the upcoming hearings and legal proceedings in the courts, which are being monitored domestically and internationally.
