State action has been initiated against Zulfiqar Ahmed Raja, a prominent lawyer and public rights leader of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, former President of Mirpur Bar Association.
According to sources, this retaliation against him was carried out after a speech he made in favor of the ‘Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee’ at the Mirpur Bar.
The administration has included the name of renowned politician and lawyer Zulfiqar Ahmed Raja in the Fourth Schedule, after which his passport has been canceled and his bank accounts have been frozen. This move is being strongly condemned in public and legal circles and is being termed as a direct attack on constitutional rights and freedom of expression.
Zulfiqar Ahmed Raja is considered a credible and powerful name in the national politics of Jammu and Kashmir, who has been struggling for the restoration of public rights for a long time.
According to legal experts, using such tactics when a voice is raised in favor of the Public Action Committee is a failed attempt to suppress the public movement. Local civil society and the legal community have called for the immediate withdrawal of the decision, calling it political revenge.
