British MP Barrister Imran Hussain has expressed deep concern over the ongoing lockdown, escalating violence and serious human rights violations in Azad Kashmir (Pakistan-administered Kashmir) for the past three months and has formally demanded a comprehensive debate on the issue in the British Parliament.
British Kashmiri MP Barrister Imran Hussain said in his statement that despite the passage of three months in Azad Kashmir, continuous reports of deaths, injuries to civilians and unjustified arrests are being received, which are extremely worrying.
He clarified that as a British MP, he has demanded a full and detailed debate on this issue in the House so that these serious human rights violations can be effectively raised at the global level in the light of international law.
Barrister Imran Hussain demanded the following immediate steps in the region: an immediate end to violent acts and violence against civilians. The blocked internet and all communication links should be restored immediately. Peaceful negotiations between all parties should begin without delay. And the fundamental human rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people should be given top priority at the heart of any lasting solution to the issue.
