Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed to have targeted “sensitive” installations in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as well as an Aramco facility in Yanbu, located on the Red Sea coast.
Houthi spokesman Amin Hayyan stated that these recent attacks were carried out using ballistic missiles and drones.
Saudi Arabia has not yet responded to this statement, nor has it confirmed or denied the attacks.
Earlier, Saudi officials stated that a ballistic missile fired towards Riyadh had been intercepted and destroyed on the same day, though they did not confirm the other reported attacks.
Prior to this, clouds of black smoke were seen rising from fuel tanks near the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Flight operations were temporarily disrupted on Saturday due to this incident, which occurred near Riyadh International Airport.
Citing the ‘Al-Masirah’ television channel, Iran’s news agency ‘IRNA’ reported that the Houthi Foreign Ministry has called upon the international community to fulfill its responsibilities regarding Saudi Arabia’s actions in Yemen—actions the group describes as “criminal.”
In a statement, the ministry asserted that the Houthis possess the legitimate right to respond to any Saudi action that threatens their security and stability, and that they would take necessary measures in this regard. This statement from the Houthis comes at a time when, according to the news agency AFP, the Houthis alleged on Friday that Saudi Arabia had carried out 26 attacks in Houthi-controlled territory.
