Reports have emerged that the home of Advocate Khawaja Mehran Arshad—a core member of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC)—was demolished by the district administration and security forces in the Dadyal Tehsil of Mirpur District, Pakistan-administered Kashmir. This incident has sparked growing anger and resentment in the area.
Advocate Khawaja Mehran Arshad hails from Dadyal and is considered a prominent leader of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee. Thousands of people from Dadyal participated in the long march launched by the JAAC on June 9 under his leadership.
Khawaja Mehran has been present at the ongoing JAAC sit-in in Rawalakot for several months. Prior to this, there were reports that his father had been detained during attempts by state agencies to take Khawaja Mehran into custody.
A strong reaction has emerged from JAAC activists and supporters following the news of the demolition of Khawaja Mehran’s home. Protesters and locals have expressed concern, describing the incident as an action taken against leaders associated with the protest movement.
However, the reasons for the demolition, the official stance of the district administration or security agencies regarding the matter, and the legal basis for the action remain unclear.
