Rawalakot: Struggle to Continue Until Basic Public Rights Are Granted – JKJAAC

Leaders of the Jammu & Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (Poonch) have stated that the committee’s struggle is not aimed at gaining a share of power or competing with anyone, but rather at ensuring the provision and guarantee of basic rights to the public. Access to affordable electricity and flour, quality education, healthcare and medical treatment, clean water, and the repair and construction of dilapidated roads are fundamental rights of the people and the responsibility of the government.

Addressing the sit-in at South Bagh (Kothiyan), Joint Public Action Committee leaders—including Amjad Latif, Imran Sajaq, Imtiaz Rahmat, Azhar Rasheed, and others—remarked that when the public demanded their legitimate rights, the authorities deployed security forces who opened fire on unarmed citizens, resulting in the martyrdom of innocent people.

The leaders emphasized that the public is waging a peaceful struggle to secure their fundamental rights; the series of protests and sit-ins will continue until the agreed-upon demands outlined in the ‘Charter of Demands’ are implemented.

They asserted that providing basic amenities is the government’s responsibility and that citizens must hold the authorities accountable regarding their rights. The objective of the Joint Public Action Committee is to resolve public issues and ensure the provision of basic amenities, not to seek a share in governance or engage in rivalry with any party.
