Four members of the same family were killed and a young girl was injured following an explosion at a residential house in Pandi, a village located south of the Bagh district in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
According to local authorities and eyewitnesses, this tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening, between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM. While there are varying accounts regarding the nature of the explosion, preliminary information indicates that four family members died on the spot, and one girl sustained severe injuries.
The deceased include Shazia Shafqat (wife of Shafqat, aged approximately 40–42), the mother of Shafqat (aged approximately 80), Haris Shafqat (son, aged approximately 11), and Malaika Shafqat (daughter, aged approximately 8).
Aniqa Shafqat (aged approximately 17–18), who was injured in the incident, was immediately transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bagh for medical treatment.
Regarding the incident, Abid Shaheen, a core member of the JKJAAC, stated: “Mobile services are unavailable in this area due to the presence of a jammer. It has not been confirmed whether this was a drone strike or a grenade attack carried out by the forces; the area is under the control of the forces, and this house was deliberately targeted by them. Resistance by women in this locality has previously forced the forces to retreat on several occasions. Aniqa, the girl injured in this incident, had also been wounded in the past by shelling from the forces during such acts of resistance.” Deputy Commissioner of Bagh, Mumtaz Kazmi, briefed the media, stating that a grenade incident occurred at the residence of Shafqat—who resides abroad—in the village of Pandi.
According to him, the incident resulted in the deaths of Shafqat’s wife, mother, son, and daughter.
The Deputy Commissioner further noted that an injured girl was initially brought to Bagh Hospital, where she was stabilized; however, she has since been transferred to Muzaffarabad for further diagnostic procedures (a CT scan).
He mentioned that the affected village is located at a considerable distance from Bagh, and security force contingents have been dispatched to the scene. Preliminary suspicions suggest that terrorists had been present in the area (Chatra Topi) over the past few days—reportedly engaging in gunfire and the use of grenades—and a comprehensive investigation into the incident is currently underway.
