World Book Day: Kashmir bans knowledge, over 50 books banned

World Book Day is being celebrated all over the world today, where knowledge, research and freedom of expression are paid tribute. However, a worrying aspect has also come to light on this occasion, where like other regions, some books are also subject to government restrictions in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Authorities in Pakistan-administered Kashmir have banned 25 books by author Saeed Asad.

According to government orders, buying and selling of these books has been declared a crime, and strict measures will be taken to prevent their availability in the market.

According to sources, the content of these books was banned, calling them sensitive, but critics are calling this move a ban on freedom of expression.

It is being said that the situation is the same in Indian-administered Kashmir. This issue is not limited to one region.

In Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, 25 books on the history of Kashmir were banned in August last year. These books were also removed from the market due to their controversial content.

Intellectuals and human rights activists say that book bans create intellectual stagnation in society.

According to them, finding solutions through dialogue is more effective than suppressing dissenting views.
