Kotli: Talks fail over alleged police misconduct, main highways to be closed

The sanitation crisis in the city of Kotli in Pakistan-administered Kashmir has taken a new turn, where talks between the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee and the administration failed after alleged police misconduct.

According to details, for the past one month, citizens have been facing severe difficulties due to the municipality not collecting garbage from the city, while complaints of stench are coming up in various areas. The Public Action Committee says that the administration was given time several times to resolve the problem, but no practical steps were taken.

Today, Joint Public Action Committee member Yasir Malik allegedly hired laborers to collect garbage from the city and tried to throw it outside the DC office in protest. During this, a large contingent of police led by DSP Sohail Yousaf reached the spot.

According to the Public Action Committee, the police misbehaved with Yasir Malik while an official also slapped him, after which the situation became tense.

After the incident, Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee member Imtiaz Aslam announced that talks with the administration had completely failed and all main highways in Kotli would be closed as a protest.

The Public Action Committee has demanded that the police personnel involved in the incident be immediately suspended, FIRs be registered and arrested against those responsible, and immediate cleanliness arrangements be made in the city.

The committee has warned that the scope of the protest will be further expanded if its demands are not met.
