Muzaffarabad: 14-year-old student shot dead for refusing marriage, accused arrested

The Muzaffarabad City Police Station in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, yesterday arrested a youth who is accused of trying to kill the girl he was dating by shooting her when she refused to marry him. The girl was injured in the shooting and was shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

The incident took place on May 12, 2026, within the limits of Muzaffarabad City Police Station. A case of the incident was registered at the City Police Station on May 12, 2026, after which the police arrested the accused.

According to the initial police report, the victim is about 14 years old and is a student of class 9. The case was registered on the complaint of the victim’s mother.

According to the victim’s mother, her husband is abroad for work while she is a resident of Sethi Bagh, a suburb of Muzaffarabad. She claimed that a youth named Muhammad Sami, son of Muhammad Mushtaq, had been obstructing her daughter’s path and trying to force her into marriage.

According to the victim’s mother, she had repeatedly warned the youth against such acts and informed her parents about his behavior, but he did not stop. She said that on May 12, Muhammad Sami entered her house in a rage, kicked the girl and then pulled out a pistol and opened fire with the intention of killing her. The girl fell down injured after being shot, while the accused fled the scene while making threats.
