A statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned Pakistan’s air strikes on Afghanistan on Sunday night.
The statement issued on June 29 described Pakistan’s attacks as “open aggression, an attack on Afghanistan’s sovereignty and a threat to peace and stability in the region”, saying that they resulted in the deaths of several civilians.
Pakistan claims that on Sunday night, based on “credible intelligence information”, Pakistani forces targeted three targets affiliated with Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in Paktika, Paktia and Kunar regions of Afghanistan, killing 25 militants.
However, a spokesman for the Afghan Taliban has alleged that the Pakistani army’s air strikes targeted civilian areas, resulting in the deaths of 36 people, including women and children, and the injuries of 163. The Afghan Taliban claims that all those killed and injured are civilians.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs statement: ‘India expresses its condolences to the Afghan families who have lost their loved ones and prays for the speedy recovery of the injured.’
The statement said that India ‘reaffirms its unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan.’
In its statement on Pakistan’s attacks in Afghanistan, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs added: ‘This reflects Pakistan’s continued irresponsible behavior and its failed attempt to resort to cross-border violence to blame others for its own internal failures.’
