The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, which was banned in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, has announced a long march from Rawalakot to Muzaffarabad on July 15 in support of its demands.
The organization had earlier started a long march from Bhimber on June 9, but the administration stopped the participants from proceeding on reaching Rawalakot. Since then, the participants of the long march have been staging a sit-in in the Derek Eidgah area on the outskirts of Rawalakot.
Over a dozen people, including four policemen, have been killed in clashes between Awami Action Committee workers and law enforcement officials in the past few weeks.
The Rawalakot district administration has confirmed the organization’s announcement of a new long march and said that for now, this is just an announcement. According to the administration, the situation will be reviewed when the participants actually start the long march.
District officials say that at this stage, the importance of the long march is limited to its mere announcement rather than its practical launch.
