After a month of intense protests against repeated leaks of exam papers in India, the leading organization ‘Kakroch Janata Party’ (CJP) has officially announced the end of the protest after its other demands were accepted. Earlier on Saturday, India’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post after intense pressure from students.
The protesters, mostly young students, had been demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan since last month. They argued that the repeated leaks of papers have badly affected the reputation of the education system.
In a statement released on social media site X, Dharmendra Pradhan confirmed his resignation and said, ‘The situation that has arisen in Jantar Mantar and the country, anti-national elements should not take advantage of it. The unity of the country should remain intact.
He further said that the future of a single student of India should not be entangled in legal complications, so he has sent his resignation to the Prime Minister. It should be noted that earlier all the opposition parties, including the Congress, were also insisting on his resignation.
As soon as the news of the Education Minister’s resignation came out, a wave of joy broke out among the CJP supporters at the main protest site in Delhi and a large-scale celebration was celebrated.
CJP founder Abhijit Deepke, speaking emotionally from a makeshift stage, said that ‘we have done it.’ However, he made it clear that the movement’s struggle is not over yet.
Deepke demanded that ‘the families of the students who committed suicide after the cancellation of the entrance exam should be given adequate compensation and the organization will not back down from this demand.’ He condemned the excessive use of force by the police during the Parliament March on July 20 and also demanded action against the responsible officials and concluded his statement by warning, ‘Remember, do not confuse yourself with ‘cockroaches’.’
Sonam Wangchuck, a well-known social activist who had been on a hunger strike for 26 days in support of the CJP, welcomed the resignation of the Education Minister after ending her hunger strike early Friday morning and called it a ‘victory for democracy’.
He congratulated the CJP, Generation Z and citizens across the country on X, saying that they had overcome fear and raised their voices, and now it is the turn of reforms after accountability.
Later, an official announcement was made by the spokesperson of the Cockroach Janata Party that the protest is now being called off after the government accepted the organization’s other demands.
On the other hand, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Rahul Gandhi termed Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as a ‘big step towards reforming the education system’ and said, ‘Heartfelt congratulations to all those youth and students who took to the streets to protect democracy, the Constitution and their future and demonstrated steadfastness. I am proud of all of you.’
Rahul Gandhi has also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologize to the students and take immediate action against those who tortured the protesters.
