BNP wins 151 seats in Bangladesh elections

In the general elections held in Bangladesh yesterday, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won 151 seats out of 300, the majority needed to form the next government.

The morning of the people of Bangladesh began with the news that the BNP is gaining the upper hand and is close to forming the next government.

It is being said that BNP leader Tariq Rahman can become the next prime minister of the country.

This is a major turning point for him. In the last 2024 elections, he was in self-imposed exile and was in London and his party completely boycotted the elections, while thousands of workers and supporters were in jail.

Now, thanks to the struggle of Bangladeshi students and youth, who ended Sheikh Hasina’s years-long authoritarian rule, Tariq Rahman can become the next leader of the country.

National Citizens Party (NCP) candidate Naheed Islam won the Dhaka 11 constituency in the election and has formed an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.

According to BBC Bangla, he has unofficially won and received a total of 93,872 votes.

His nearest rival, BNP candidate MA Qayyum, received 91,833 votes, 2,039 votes less than Naheed Islam.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharafuddin Ahmed Chowdhury announced the results on Friday morning.

It is being reported that 44.72 percent of the votes were cast in this constituency.
