The UK-based Kashmiri community staged a massive protest demonstration in London on September 20 to raise their voices against the killing of unarmed civilians, the excessive use of force, arrests, and enforced disappearances by security forces in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
A large number of Kashmiris—including women, children, youth, and the elderly—traveled from various cities across the UK to participate in the demonstration. The protesters gathered outside the British Prime Minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street, where they staged a strong protest against the ongoing situation in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
At the venue, protesters chanted slogans such as “Foreign forces go back,” “Pakistani forces go back,” and “Stop the bloodshed in Kashmir.”
Participants, including women and children, held placards and banners demanding justice for those who lost their lives during the movement for public rights, an end to enforced disappearances, the immediate release and recovery of detained individuals, and the protection of fundamental human rights.
Following the protest at Downing Street, the demonstrators marched through central London, concluding the rally at the historic Trafalgar Square.
The protesters stated that the primary objective of the demonstration was to draw the attention of the British government, international human rights organizations, and the global community to the dire situation in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, and to seek justice for the affected families. It should be noted that the British government has also expressed concern in recent weeks over reports of civilian casualties, arrests, and communication restrictions in the region, and has called upon all parties to respect human rights, exercise restraint, and pursue the path of peaceful dialogue.
