The funeral prayers for Ashfaq Sharif, who lost his life yesterday in the Rera Tehsil of Bagh District (Pakistan-administered Kashmir), have been offered. Thousands of people attended the funeral, while an atmosphere of protest prevailed in the area, with Rera echoing with slogans of revolution and resistance.
Following the funeral prayers, participants in the ongoing protest sit-in in Rera announced that the protest would continue. According to Lala Nisar, President of the Rera Traders’ Association, the sit-in will not be called off until Hafeez (an officer at the Rera police post) and Constable Syed Tanveer Shah are suspended and an FIR is registered against them.
Lala Nisar stated that the protest sit-in would persist until their demands are met.
It is worth noting that the police and administration have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident of Ashfaq Sharif’s death and the demands raised by the protesters.
