25 More Individuals Added to ‘Fourth Schedule’ in Kashmir

The government of Pakistan-administered Kashmir has added 25 more individuals to the ‘Fourth Schedule’ under anti-terrorism laws. This brings the total number of people included in the Fourth Schedule to over 400.

Most of the individuals added to the Fourth Schedule are associated with the ‘Joint Awami Action Committee’—an organization that has been declared a proscribed (banned) entity—and the majority hail from the Poonch Division of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

According to the list issued by the Home Department, 16 individuals are from Poonch, five from Sudhnoti, and two from Neelum, while one representative each from the banned Joint Awami Action Committee is included from the Bagh and Mirpur districts.

The list released by the Home Department a few days ago also includes the name of a local journalist from Rawalakot.

Individuals placed on the Fourth Schedule are required to report to their local police station once a week. Furthermore, if such an individual intends to travel to another area, they must provide prior notification to the relevant police station.

A committee is established at the district level—which includes officials from intelligence agencies—and it is based on reports prepared by these agencies that the district committee grants approval for the inclusion of any individual’s name in the Fourth Schedule.
