Amma Houri, the mother of Gul Muhammad Marri, who was allegedly forcibly disappeared by forces from Quetta, the main city of Balochistan, on August 7, 2012, passed away after a long struggle. She had been continuously participating in protests and sit-ins for the recovery of her son for the past 14 years.
According to the details, Gul Muhammad Marri, son of Bahar Khan Marri, was subjected to forced disappearance after being allegedly detained in 2012. After this incident, Amma Houri continuously raised her voice from Balochistan to Islamabad for the recovery of her son and participated in protests and sit-ins in different cities.
Amma Houri set up camps in many places including Islamabad and demanded the return of her son at every forum. Despite her age and illness, she continued her struggle and sought justice until her last breath.
On this occasion, the Baloch Solidarity Committee said in its statement that Amma Houri was a symbol of resistance. According to the organization, she never stopped after the forced disappearance of her son in 2012 and participated in the streets, camps and protests despite more than thirty years of widowhood and continuous grief.
The statement said that Amma Houri endured lathicharge, threats, hunger and exhaustion but did not back down from searching for her son. Even after the violence in Baloch Raji Machi in 2023, she continued to sit in the protest camp with Dr. Mahrang Baloch and traveled to Dalbandin for a rally.
According to the organization, she kept taking her son’s name in every prayer and even in 2025, she reached Islamabad and continued to demand justice, however, she left this world without seeing her son for the last time.
The statement further said that Amma Houri’s struggle will live on in every mother who is demanding justice by holding a picture of her missing loved one. The organization demanded that all forcibly disappeared persons be released immediately and safely so that the long and painful wait for the affected families can end.
