I will never allow Iran to have nuclear weapons, US President

US President Donald Trump delivered his annual State of the Union address to Congress a short while ago.

Trump set the record for the longest State of the Union address, which was almost an hour and 50 minutes long, and thus broke the record set by Bill Clinton’s last address in 2000.

Trump repeatedly emphasized his economic agenda and said that he had witnessed “historic change” in his first year back in the White House.

Trump also talked about Iran. He referred to the US operation in Iran last year, known as Operation Midnight Hammer, which targeted the country’s nuclear facilities.

He said: “After Midnight Hammer, they were warned not to try to rebuild their weapons program, but they are continuing to do so and are now pushing forward with their nuclear ambitions again.”

He added that Iran wants to make a deal to avoid further US attacks, but has not yet committed to never building a nuclear weapon.

Trump said: “My preference is to resolve this issue diplomatically, but one thing is certain. I will never allow the world’s greatest sponsor of terrorism, which he is, to have a nuclear weapon.”

Trump added that his tough stance on Iran is part of his “peace through strength” strategy.

He said this has included trying to make the US military the most powerful on earth.
