Strong reaction to portraying a woman who was forcibly disappeared in Balochistan as a ‘suicide bomber’

The Balochistan government presented Farzana Baloch, a young woman who was forcibly disappeared from Khuzdar district of Balochistan on December 1, 2025, as a ‘suicide bomber’ during a press conference in Quetta, which has raised serious concerns from Baloch political circles, human rights organizations and various groups.

Authorities say that the woman was allegedly arrested during an operation before preparing a suicide attack, while her family and social circles reject this claim.

The woman was introduced as ‘Laiba’ in the press conference and it was claimed that she was in contact with extremist elements. However, the family maintains that she went missing on the night of December 1, 2025, while returning home from the hospital and was not presented in any court or legal forum for more than three months.

The Baloch Solidarity Committee (BYC) has dismissed the government’s allegations as baseless and said that Farzana Baloch was forced to give her statement after her prolonged illegal detention.

According to the organization, this move is an attempt to suppress questions raised on enforced disappearances and justify the ongoing actions against the BYC leadership.

BYC has demanded that the government provide evidence for its claims or publicly apologize.

On the other hand, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has also said in a statement that the woman presented before the media has no connection with the organization.

According to the BLA spokesperson, state institutions have been presenting enforced disappearances in press conferences with various claims in the past, which were later rejected by the courts.

The statement claimed that such actions are an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing tension and military situation in Balochistan.

Baloch political and social circles say that such press conferences not only increase suspicion about enforced disappearances but also reinforce the concerns of the affected families. Human rights organizations have demanded that a transparent investigation be conducted into Farzana Baloch’s detention, appearance, and allegations.
