Two separate but similar protests were held in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, on the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr, demanding the end of enforced disappearances, the recovery of missing persons and the release of arrested leaders of the Baloch Solidarity Committee (BYC).
Like every year, the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) held a protest on the first day of Eid this year too.
The relatives of the missing persons participating in the protest said that the purpose of the protest on this day of joy is to make the world aware of their pain and suffering, so that those responsible realize and take practical steps to recover the missing persons.
They said that until their loved ones return, their Eid remains incomplete.
A protest rally was also held on the same day as part of the campaign launched by the Baloch Solidarity Committee (BYC), demanding the release of the organization’s arrested leaders.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other BYC leaders have been in prison for the past one year, and this is their third Eid in jail.
According to the protesters, these leaders raised their voice for the disappeared, due to which they are still behind bars today.
Both protests were attended by a large number of people from various political parties, student organizations, social circles and families of the disappeared.
The participants demanded that state institutions seriously address the issue of enforced disappearances, take transparent measures and ensure the safe recovery of all missing persons, including BYC leaders.
The protesters stressed that remaining silent against injustice only strengthens oppression, so the people should continue to raise their voices.
