The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that no radiation was released following the recent attack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility.
According to the agency, Iranian authorities had reported the attack on the Natanz facility, after which the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran confirmed the initial assessment—that there was no radiation release.
The IAEA said in a statement that it was continuing to investigate the incident. The head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, urged the parties to exercise restraint in order to avoid a possible nuclear accident.
On the other hand, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim News Agency, the United States and Israel targeted the Natanz nuclear facility in central Iran on Saturday, which is used for uranium enrichment.
In its statement, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran described the attack as an action by the “United States and the Zionist state” and said that the enrichment complex was targeted, but that it did not release radioactive material or pose any threat to the nearby population.
It should be noted that Western countries have long expressed concerns about Iran’s nuclear program and are of the opinion that Iran is enriching uranium to a level that could be suitable for making nuclear weapons, while Tehran has consistently denied these allegations.
It should be noted that this is the second attack on the Natanz facility during the ongoing tensions. Earlier, satellite images after the attack had shown evidence of damage to several buildings at the facility.
