A sad incident that took place on April 7 in the Kotli district of Pakistan-administered Kashmir has spread a wave of concern in the area.
According to the police, a student from Neelum Valley, Jawad, had been studying in a madrassa in Sahansa for some time and was later studying in Kotli.
Police officials say that on the day of the incident, Jawad met two of his old friends, with whom he had previously studied in Sahansa. According to CCTV footage, the three were seen going towards the river.
According to the police, in the light of the statements of the two detained persons, it has come to light that the alleged rape incident took place near the river, after which Jawad went into the river to bathe and allegedly drowned.
An FIR of the incident has been registered at the City Kotli police station while rescue teams are busy searching for the body. Police say that it will be clear only after the recovery of the body and the postmortem report whether any violence took place or not.
The police have taken both the people present with Jawad into custody and started investigation. According to initial information, one of the accused is said to be from Panjira while the other is from Kotli city.
On the other hand, the heirs of the deceased protested outside the Muzaffarabad Central Press Club and demanded a transparent investigation into the incident and immediate justice.
Police officials say that investigation is underway from every aspect of the case and more details will be released after the facts come to light.
