The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad in Pakistan sentenced Umar Hayat to death in the murder case of famous TikToker Sana Yousuf, while the court also imposed a total sentence of 30 years in prison and a fine of Rs 2.4 million.
Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad Afzal Majuka, while delivering the reserved verdict, ruled that the prosecution was successful in proving the guilt against the accused, therefore the accused is given the death penalty for the crime of murder.
The court also sentenced the accused separately under other provisions of the case. According to the verdict, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison under the provisions of robbery and 10 years under the provisions of housebreaking. The accused also faced punishment and fine under other provisions.
During the hearing, the prosecution presented the accused’s call recordings, mobile phone data and chat screenshots as evidence in court. The prosecution argued that digital evidence and other evidence proved the accused’s involvement in the crime.
Following the court’s verdict, the case has once again gained attention on social media and in public circles, where issues such as the protection of female social media personalities and online harassment are also being debated.
