General elections to be held in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on July 27

The Election Commission of Pakistan-administered Kashmir has announced the schedule for general elections across the state.

The general elections will be held on July 27.

Pakistan-administered Kashmir Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal said in a news conference that ‘the help of the army and Rangers has been sought to make the elections peaceful and transparent.’

He said that ‘the Election Commission will ensure that people exercise their right to vote without any difficulty.’

It should be remembered that this announcement has been made at a time when a dispute is ongoing regarding the seats of refugees residing in Pakistan in the assembly of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

The Joint Public Action Committee is demanding that these seats be abolished and the issue be resolved before the establishment of the next assembly.

It should be noted that a proposal has been made to call for 14,000 additional personnel before the Joint Action Committee protests in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

In Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the People’s Joint Action Committee has called for a protest on June 9 to resolve its demands, under which it has announced to hold a sit-in outside the Kashmir Assembly.

In this context, Kashmir Inspector General of Police Liaquat Ali has sent a proposal to the Chief Secretary to provide 14,000 personnel from the government of Pakistan to maintain public order.

On the other hand, in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the government has issued an advisory to tourists and people visiting the region for other purposes, preventing them from traveling to Azad Kashmir from June 5 to June 20, 2026.
