Kashmir: Strong public reaction to the banning of the JKJAAC, state order rejected

According to a notification issued by the Home Department of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government based in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JK-JAAC) has been included in the list of banned organizations under the Anti-Terrorism Act 2014.

The notification has taken the position that the organization has been involved in activities harmful to the peace, order and security of the state, due to which it has been included as a banned organization in the first schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

After the notification came into public view, there has been a strong reaction across the state. People in different areas have rejected this decision and expressed their determination to continue the movement for public rights. Public circles say that the public struggle that has started against inflation, electricity rates, taxes and other basic issues cannot be suppressed by such measures.

Representatives of the Joint Awami Action Committee strongly condemned the notification, calling it a move against the movement for public rights. They said that the Public Action Committee is a public and peaceful movement that has always highlighted public issues, but instead of accepting public demands, the ruling class is trying to make the movement controversial.

According to the representatives, this move has been taken to divert attention from public issues and protect power and privileges. They said that various tactics are being used to divert public rights from the path, but the people have rejected these tactics. They said that if the rulers are truly well-wishers of the people, they should immediately accept public demands.

The leaders of the Public Action Committee made it clear that their struggle will continue until the demands for public rights, cheap electricity rates, reduction in inflation and public welfare are achieved and they will oppose this notification at all levels.
