According to Fars News, an Iranian news agency affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, a parliamentary committee in Iran has approved plans to impose a toll tax on traffic passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a Fars News report, a member of the National Security Commission confirmed the approval of the plan, which would also prevent American and Israeli ships from passing through the strait.
It has been further stated that under these plans, those other countries that have participated in the sanctions imposed against Iran will also face sanctions.
According to news agency AFP, the new toll system was announced on Iranian state television, which said Iran would implement it in cooperation with Oman.
About 20 percent of the world’s crude oil shipments usually go through this important seaway that lies between Iran and Oman.
However, since the start of the war, traffic through the waterway has dropped by about 95 percent, according to the shipping information company Kipler.
