Session on Electoral Reforms in Pakistani Kashmir, Urges for Conducting Elections Under the Supervision of International Observers

Active members of the Public Action Committee and Anjuman Tajran organized an important awareness session on the topic of electoral reforms in the Hardi Gehal area of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

The session was originally scheduled to be held on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr party, but due to heavy rain and bad weather, the Eid-ul-Fitr party was postponed and a detailed discussion on electoral reforms was held instead.

The participants rejected the siege elections held in the name of democracy and demanded free and transparent elections. Points such as the establishment of an independent Election Commission, the establishment of an independent institution on the lines of NADRA for a transparent census, the right of Kashmiri citizens abroad to vote, and holding elections under the supervision of international observers were discussed in detail.

In the question and answer session, the position emerged that the current government setup should first be abolished and an interim setup should be formed, in which the representation of the Joint Public Action Committee should be mandatory.

The participants said that the people have rejected the ruling classes and expressed their confidence in the Joint Public Action Committee, therefore, no electoral process can be democratic by excluding this committee.
