US President Donald Trump has made several statements regarding the ongoing negotiations with Iran and the ceasefire, in which he has made it clear that if no deal is reached, the possibility of extending the two-week ceasefire is very low.
In an interview with the international news agency Bloomberg, Trump said that until a deal is reached, the US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will continue. In another interview with PBS News, he warned that if the ceasefire ends, “a lot of bombs will start going off.”
Trump has also expressed his views on the conflict with Iran on the social network Truth Social several times. In one post, he said, “I’m winning the war, things are going very well.” In another post, he claimed that the US was working on a deal with Iran that would be “far better” than the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached under former President Barack Obama.
He called the deal “one of the worst national security agreements ever” and said it was a “surefire path to a nuclear weapon.” Trump claimed that if he had not terminated the deal, nuclear weapons would have been used in Israel and the Middle East.
Trump added that the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz was costing Iran $500 million a day, which he said was destroying Iran. He also strongly denied the impression that he was trying to make a deal under any pressure. “I am not under any pressure at all, although everything will happen relatively quickly,” he said.
