The total number of private schools in the entire state of Pakistan-administered Kashmir is 2765, while the total number of students studying in these institutions has reached 478 thousand 351.
According to the data, the highest number of students are studying in grades 1 to 8, which is about 368 thousand, while in grades 9 to 12, this number is recorded at a little more than 110 thousand, which indicates that the rate of students decreases as they reach higher grades.
Kotli district is at the first place in terms of admissions in private educational institutions, where more than 109 thousand students are studying, while Muzaffarabad is at the second place, where more than 104 thousand students are studying in private schools. Bhimber is also among the prominent districts where more than 61,000 students are studying in private institutions.
On the other hand, the enrollment rate remained low in districts like Haveli Kahuta and Neelum, where 10,860 and 12,120 students are studying in private schools respectively. According to experts, the lack of educational facilities and geographical difficulties in these districts could be the main reasons for this.
In terms of the number of schools, Muzaffarabad is at the top with 527 private schools, while Poonch and Kotli also have a large number of private educational institutions.
Education experts say that these figures reflect the fact that the trend of private education is increasing rapidly in urban and relatively developed districts, while more attention needs to be paid in this regard in remote areas so that better educational opportunities can be provided to the students there.
