The Persian Gulf Waterway Management Authority has announced the establishment of a surveillance zone over the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the authority’s official account on the social media platform X, Iran has officially determined the administrative and surveillance area of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the announcement, the area’s boundary starts from the border connecting Iran’s Jabal Mubarak and the southern Fujairah of the United Arab Emirates on the eastern side, while on the western side it extends from the end of Iran’s Qeshm Island to Umm Al Quwain in the Emirates.
According to the organization, ships passing through this area will be required to contact the ‘Persian Gulf Waterway Management’ in advance and obtain permission from this organization.
It should be noted that the Persian Gulf Waterway Authority was established after the Iran-Iraq War and the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
Iran has reportedly closed the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the ongoing war with the US and Israel, severely disrupting global maritime trade.
US President Donald Trump said in a statement that talks with Iran were in the final stages, but warned that more attacks could follow if Tehran did not reach an agreement. He also said he wanted to see the Strait of Hormuz opened immediately.
