Orders issued to suspend landline internet services in Pakistani Kashmir from June 5 to June 12

The security situation in the region has become extremely tense ahead of the long march and sit-in on June 9 announced by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Detailed SOPs have been issued by the Public Action Committee for the protest, however, the government has started large-scale measures to prevent the protest.

According to sources, the government has shifted more than 14,000 security forces from different parts of Pakistan to Kashmir.

Local circles say that this move is an attempt to suppress the long march and prevent the protest.

The government has issued orders to suspend all landline internet services from 11:30 pm on June 5 to 12 midnight on June 12, while mobile phone and mobile internet services have also been affected.

Local citizens and analysts say that the shutdown is part of the government’s strategy to sabotage the long march and sit-in.

According to the Public Action Committee, their protests were similarly sabotaged in the past, during which several people were killed in firing by the forces.

Locals say that “the protests of the Public Action Committee have always been peaceful, but the government is preparing to play a bloody game once again under the guise of shutting down the internet and mobile services.”

The increasing security presence in the region, the shutdown of communication systems and the government’s actions have created severe anxiety among the people. Citizens say that if the government uses force, the situation could worsen further.
