The situation has gone out of control during protests and security operations in Rawalakot city of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
There are reports of large-scale casualties as a result of alleged direct firing by forces on protesters, which has led to intense anger and deep hatred against the state and local government in the entire region.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, forces deployed at the protest sites of the Joint Public Action Committee resorted to indiscriminate and direct street firing, adopting brutal methods to crush the unarmed protesters.
According to ground reports, the roads were filled with injured and dead bodies. The following figures are emerging from various sources regarding the loss of life:
According to local and ground sources, at least 8 to 10 people are allegedly killed and more than 150 civilians are injured.
: Rawalakot Commissioner Sardar Waheed told the BBC that according to the police report, 4 police personnel (including a sub-inspector) have been killed in these clashes between protesters and law enforcement agencies, while more than 50 people have been injured.
The most intense clashes took place outside the Combined Military Hospital (CMH / Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Hospital), where law enforcement agencies and protesters clashed.
According to reports, several protesters have been arrested during the forces’ operation and shifted to unknown locations, due to which fears are being expressed that they may have been disappeared.
Internet and mobile services have been completely suspended in the area. Due to this digital blackout, it is facing severe difficulties in clarifying the actual and final situation of Rawalakot, however, the unofficial reports reaching there are extremely worrying, which have not yet been possible to verify independently and impartially.
Intense tension still persists in the city. Public circles say that the brutal use of force on unarmed civilians is unacceptable in any case.
On the other hand, the incident of abuse and dragging of his sister Professor Nazanin Habib Mir during the recent raid on the house of Corps member Shaukat Nawaz Mir (which is also evidenced by the photo “image_4a2786.jpg” shared on social media) has further fueled public anger.
The action committee and the heirs are of the view that until an FIR is registered against the incidents of firing and abuse by the forces and the terrorism cases are withdrawn, the deceased will not be buried.
