Demand for an independent international investigation has emerged following reports of multiple deaths and injuries during recent protests and security operations in Rawalakot, Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
According to local sources and ground reports, at least 8 people have reportedly been killed and over 150 injured during the recent tension. However, these figures have not yet been confirmed by any independent and impartial organization.
Eyewitnesses say that a heavy contingent of security forces was deployed around the protest sites associated with the Joint Public Action Committee, while protesters claim that direct fire was opened against them, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several people. There was no immediate official statement on these claims.
According to sources, independent investigation of the incidents in Rawalakot is possible through open source intelligence (OSINT), which includes videos, photographs, hospital records, local media reports, geographical analysis and other publicly available evidence.
In the context of this situation, the United Nations, international human rights organizations, independent journalists, international media organizations and investigative agencies have been called upon to immediately launch an impartial investigation and ensure verification of the facts on the ground.
The appeal has urged the international community to pay immediate attention to the overall situation in Rawalakot and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, ensure the safety of civilians and property, and enable accountability by identifying those responsible for any proven human rights violations.
The appeal states that the protection of human lives is a fundamental human right and urgent international attention is indispensable to prevent further loss of life.
