The situation in Pakistan-administered Kashmir has become extremely tense due to the ongoing shutdown, internet suspension and wheel jam strike for the past three weeks (21 days), where there has been a severe shortage of food items after the forces stopped food trucks.
In this dire situation, a high-level Pakistani opposition delegation, which was leaving to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people and listen to the concerns of the sit-in participants, was stopped by the police and administration at Sihala and Kahuta locations before it could go to Kahuta.
A high-level delegation of the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan was leaving for Rawalakot (Kashmir) under the leadership of opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai. The purpose of the delegation was to meet the sit-in participants, listen to their concerns and express the solidarity of the Pakistani people with the Kashmiri people.
The police stopped former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Javed Rathore, Nabila Irshad, Dr. Zafar Malik, Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan spokesperson Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai and PTI founder Imran Khan’s lawyer Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry at Sihala and Kahuta locations before they were due to leave for Kahuta and prevented them from going further.
However, it is expected that the authorities will allow them to go to Kashmir after negotiations.
According to sources, the situation in Pakistan-administered Kashmir remains critical where internet services have been completely shut down for the past 21 days. Life has been paralysed due to traffic jams and shutdown strikes. The forces have stopped the food and supply vehicles entering the area, due to which the local population is facing severe food shortage and humanitarian crisis.
Political circles say that all major political parties of Pakistan and the leaders of the delegation want to resolve this important and sensitive issue through peaceful talks and negotiations. However, opposition sources and political observers allege that the military establishment, instead of understanding the sensitivity of the issue, is further aggravating the situation by using force and creating obstacles, which is further increasing the sense of deprivation and anger among the Kashmiri people.
