Responding to a question regarding the Track Two dialogue between India and Pakistan in Colombo, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said: “These are privately held events organized by non-governmental parties.”
Talking to the news agency Asian News International (ANI), he added: “We do not see them as official.” “All those from India who attend these events, be they retired diplomats, retired military officers or members of civil society, do so in their personal capacity and present their own views.”
According to the Indian Foreign Secretary, the individuals attending these events “do not and cannot in any way represent the position of the Indian government.”
Vikram Misri’s response came after reports that officials from Pakistan and India had met in Colombo, which was attended by former diplomats, retired military personnel and politicians from the ruling parties of both countries.
According to reports, the aim of the meeting was to promote informal diplomatic contacts between Pakistan and India.
