The ongoing strike by academic staff at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, a major educational institution in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, has severely affected the teaching and administrative system for five days, as a result of which various campuses have been closed and educational activities have been completely suspended.
The teachers are protesting on the basis of non-payment of salaries, delay in pension, upgradation and service structure issues.
The protesting teachers maintain that dues have not been paid for several months, while retired teachers are also deprived of pension payment. Apart from this, upgradation and promotion cases have been pending for a long time, due to which there is severe anxiety among the teaching staff.
On the other hand, students have also expressed serious concerns over this situation. Students say that their valuable academic time is being wasted due to the strike by the academic staff. The semester system is being badly affected by the closure of classes, while examinations and research activities are also at a standstill, which is likely to have a negative impact on their academic future.
The students have demanded from the government and the university administration that the legitimate demands of the teachers be immediately addressed so that academic activities can resume soon and the university system can return to normal.
