After the attack on a shuttle train carrying Pakistani military personnel in Quetta, the main city of Balochistan, the Railway Police has tightened security arrangements across Pakistan.

A spokesperson for the Railway Police said that in the wake of the Quetta bomb blast, instructions have been issued to all Railway Police personnel to remain on high alert, which states that foolproof security should be ensured at mosques, Imambargahs, Eidgahs, shrines and other religious places located within the railway limits.

Similarly, instructions have also been issued to deploy additional Railway Police personnel at sensitive religious places and Eid gatherings.

He added that the security of railway tracks, passenger and freight trains, important installations, railway yards, stores, workshops and offices is being further tightened. Regular searches, sweeps and patrols will be conducted at railway stations, bridges, tracks and sensitive places.

In addition, trained and armed commandos should be deployed on trains and railway stations.

According to the spokesperson, instructions have been issued to maintain close contact with the railway administration, district police, intelligence agencies, rescue services and bomb disposal squad.

During this, strict checking and monitoring of suspicious persons, goods, vehicles and abandoned objects will be carried out. CCTV cameras, intelligence-based surveillance and effective monitoring of entry and exit routes are being ensured.

Railway authorities have issued instructions that a comprehensive security plan comprising all security divisions, deployment of personnel and responsibilities should be prepared and sent to the concerned office immediately. These steps have been taken to avoid any untoward incident and ensure the safety of passengers so that the railway network can be made safe.

The BLA accepted responsibility and said that the attack was carried out by suicide bomber Bilal Shahwani of its Majeed Brigade unit, in which 82 military personnel were killed, while the official claim is that the number of deaths is 14 and more than 30 are injured.
