Rawalakot: Forces raid protest sit-in, dozens injured in firing and shelling, situation tense

The situation has become extremely tense in Rawalakot city of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, where dozens of unarmed protesters have been injured in the action taken by security forces on a protest sit-in.

According to eyewitnesses, the forces surrounded the sit-in site from all sides and deployed personnel on the roofs of nearby buildings and indiscriminately fired and fired tear gas at the protesters.

According to reports, several people were injured in direct firing during the action, of which the condition of 2 is said to be critical.

The protesters claim that shells were also thrown in sensitive areas like CMH, however, despite this repression, the masses of the people are steadfast in their places.

The security forces have also started a series of raids on the houses of the movement leaders. There have been reports of extremely indecent treatment of the sister of Corps member Shaukat Nawaz Mir, Professor Nazanin Habib Mir, during the raid on her house.

According to reports circulating on social media and public circles, she was dragged and mistreated during the raid, which is being strongly condemned as against humanity and law.

The brother of the young Shahzeb, who was martyred during the sit-in, and the Joint Public Action Committee have categorically announced that the funeral of the martyr will not be held or buried until the FIR of the incident is registered and the charges of terrorism against the public representatives are withdrawn.

Today, a complete shutter-down strike was observed across the state on the protest call, during which all business centers were closed and the roads were deserted. A large number of people have come out on the streets in Rawalakot and resistance against the advance of the forces is ongoing.

Independent sources say that tensions remain in the area and the protesters are not willing to back down until their demands are met.
