Marriage ceremonies in Thorad subdivision of Pakistani Kashmir are now becoming a symbol of fear instead of joy. Aerial firing has become a routine in various areas, especially in Moreen, Sardi and Androt, which is not only a blatant violation of the law but is also posing a serious threat to human lives.
There is a clear ban on display of weapons and aerial firing under the National Action Plan, however, the ground realities are opposite to this. There have been reports of damage to several houses as a result of indiscriminate firing at weddings. At many places, tin roofs have been ripped open due to bullets, causing severe panic and fear among the citizens.
According to the local population, the firing late at night is causing severe anxiety among children, women and the elderly, while there is a fear of loss of life at any time.
The worrying thing is that the administration seems to be silent on this situation and so far there are no signs of any effective action. Citizens have demanded that immediate and strict measures be taken against aerial firing to ensure peace and order in the area and to rid the public of this dangerous trend.
